Adjuncts of place

An adjunct is any adverb, adverbial clause, adverbial phrase or prepositional phrase that gives more information primarily about the acrion in the sentence. However, it can also qualify another adjective, an adverb or even a compliment. Usually when an adjunct is removed from a sentence the sentence still remains grammatically correct. Example;

a) The man slapped him in the gallary.

In the gallary is the adunct showing place and even when removed from the sentence, the sentence still remains grammatically correct.

Adjuncts show the time, place, reason, manner, frequency, degree etc. of an action.

ADJUNCTS OF PLACE

These adjuncts show the place an action took place in the sentence. It shows the location of an action. Examples;

  • There was an unknown vehicle parked in front of our house.
  • We will be meeting our school friends at the new Chinese restaurant.
  • The environment club will be performing a street play near the food court.
  • You will be able to find a stationery store opposite the bus stand.
  • Deborah found her daughter hiding under the dining table.
